A story on Rochester NPR affiliate WXXI-FM about opioid addiction and the shortage of doctors trained to treat the problem interviews Richard Blondell, vice chair for addiction medicine and professor of family medicine in the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. The story reports that UB is one of only 27 schools in the country with an Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program for doctors who want to go into the specialty. “There are more doctors out there prescribing heavy doses of narcotics than there are out there trying to help people get off of them,” Blondell said. The story also aired on WRVO in Oswego.
