A Gannett News Service article about yesterday’s decision to increase the hourly wages of fast-food workers in New York State to $15 an hour by 2021 quotes Jerry Newman, SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus of Organization and Human Resources. “It’s going to be difficult for the fast food industry to stay price competitive,” said Newman, who worked undercover at seven fast-food restaurants in 2006 for his book, “My Secret Life on the McJob.” “The casual dining industry, any restaurant with a server, will be in a much better positions because they won’t have to raise prices. Fast food restaurants will inevitably have to.” The article appeared in news outlets that include the Poughkeepsie Journal and Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. Newman also was quoted in stories that appeared on WGRZ-TV and WBEN-AM.
