An excerpt from “Hitler at Home,” a new book by Despina Stratigakos, interim chair of the Department of Architecture, was published in Slate and examines how the Third Reich used interior design to try to manipulate Hitler’s image at home and abroad. The excerpt looks at Life magazine’s 1939 feature on Hitler’s design sensibilities that caused an outpouring from readers that ranged from Hitler fan mail to wild conspiracy theories.
