An article on Vice about forensic experts in Texas who are calling on the courts to stop accepting bite-mark evidence reports on research conducted by Peter Bush, director of the UB South Campus Instrument Center, and Mary Bush, associate professor of restorative dentistry, who began questioning bite-mark analysis in 2007.“It’s not reliable,” Peter Bush said. “We carried out a number of experiments and found that the wrong dentition sometimes fit the bite than the one that made it…. We had one study where we looked at 1,100 specimens and had a number of matches. It’s not unique, like a fingerprint. Any number of people could fit in a given bite mark.”
