An article on USA Today about an archaeological find in France of a restaurant-like structure that’s roughly 2,100 years old, making it one of the earliest such taverns in the western Mediterranean, quotes Stephen Dyson, UB Distinguished Professor and Park Professor of Classics, and an expert in Roman archaeology. The Celtic people of western Europe “were famous (or infamous) in antiquity for their love of wine,” he said. The ceramic remains show “they imported the drinking vessels as well as the wine.
