An article in the Los Angeles Times about a federal appeals court ruling that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady must serve a four-game suspension for his role in an alleged football-deflating scheme quotes Nellie Drew, a sports law instructor in the UB School of Law. “From a legal perspective, Brady is all but done,” she said.

Drew was interviewed about the ruling by a number of news outlets, including USA Today, where she said Monday’s ruling was the “right result.” “It was very well written, and in particular, they essentially say, this is not our job to say if this was a perfect decision, this was not our role,” she said. “The first part of the ruling reads like textbook arbitration law.”

She also was quoted in an article on MSNBC: “The ramifications of the Second Circuit’s decision are far-reaching,” she said. “It reinforces the commissioner’s authority to discipline players in a far-reaching manner as set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.”
