A video on CNBC’s Squawk Box interviews Jacob Neiheisel, assistant professor of political science, about Monday night’s presidential debate. When you look historically at president debates, certainly there are “gotcha” moments, he said, but the lines we remember are of a personal nature. “Trump has this amazing ability to make gaffs … and keep on rolling, so if he’s true to form and able to deflect those kinds of ‘gotcha’ moments, then I think he has a chance to, if not come out ahead, then at least [finish] without tanking himself in the polls.” The story also appeared on MSN and Yahoo Finance.
Neiheisel also was interviewed about the presidential debate on WBFO-FM, noting that the event is unlikely to provide either candidate with a boost in the polls. “I think the bulk of the electorate has made up their minds,” he said. “Trump's biggest problem, about a third of the way into the debate, is that he turned into Donald Trump. Clinton, conversely, looked presidential and confident without being overly condescending.”
