An article in USA Today about how President Trump’s ban on refugees from mostly Muslim nations could be used as propaganda by the Islamic State to recruit more violence-prone members quotes Michael Stefanone, associate professor of communication, and Michelle Benson, associate professor of political science. “Attitudes can predict behavior … not always, but often. In the end, policies like these increase negativity around the world,” Stefanone said. “As long as the U.S. has a one-size-fits-all policy that only applies to Muslim countries, this policy will be used as a recruitment tool,” Benson said. Articles appeared in news outlets around the nation, including KSDK-TV in St. Louis, Indianapolis Star, Cincinnati Enquirer, Detroit Free Press and Arizona Republic.
