New research shows how abortion restrictions hurt poor women most

An article in New York Magazine reports on research by Gretchen Ely, associate professor of social work, that showed that abortion is already all but inaccessible to poor Americans, with young and black women most affected. “What you have here is a distinct representation of the ageism, classism, sexism that follows the unintended — or intended — consequences of restrictions on abortion in certain states and on the federal level,” she said. “It’s an excellent representation of the intersection of all the ‘isms.’”
