Cops suffer from working the afternoon shift

An article in England’s Daily Mail reports on research by John Violanti, research professor of epidemiology and environmental health in the School of Public Health and Health Professions, that found that male police officers on the afternoon shift are twice as likely to report being tired, while female police officers cope better with the afternoon shift because they are more supportive of one another at work. “Female officers appear to use more effective types of coping with the stress and fatigue of shift work,” he said. “Previous research shows women are more likely than men to be supportive of each other to help protect against the stress of shift work.”
