UB water researcher engages Michigan residents in citizen science

WCMU Radio in Michigan reports on a citizen science project co-led by hydrology expert Chris Lowry. With Indiana University and St. Louis University, Lowry is asking Northern Michigan residents to text him data on a local river’s temperature and water levels. The data will be used to generate a 7-day forecast of stream conditions. “As soon as this text message comes it will then be sent to the model and the model will adjust. … Every time a new observation comes in, boom, the model will get a little better,” Lowry, an associate professor of geology, tells the station.
