The Buffalo News reported that the Genomics Institute at UB has reached its job creation goal, having created 530 jobs at area high-tech companies. The institute was launched in 2014 with a $47.5 million Buffalo Billion grant award to UB. State officials said the institute has surpassed its commitment to create 250 jobs by February 2022. The CEO of one of the companies, KSL Biomedical, Kevin Lawson, said the resources available through the institute and UB were “invaluable.” He added: “It’s a big reason we could develop the capacity to perform hundreds of thousands of tests during the pandemic. Our creation of more than 100 jobs would have been impossible without” the institute. The story quoted Gov. Cuomo, who said state officials said the 13 partner companies expect their job-creation total to surpass 600 by the end of the year.
