The real threat to free speech is coming from the right

Newsweek published an op-ed that was co-authored by Athena Mutua, in which the authors write that they believe the real threat to free speech is coming from the political far right. The piece highlights that academic freedom is "not the absolute freedom of utterance of the individual scholar, but the absolute freedom of thought, of inquiry, of discussion, and of teaching, of the academic profession." Rightwing ideologues have abandoned academic freedom; they seek instead to control knowledge.
