Newsweek quotes Veljko Fotak in an article about the ethical concerns of congressional stock trading. “I think that the moral bar, for our politicians, should be higher than the legal bar—which is, frankly, low,” Fotak said. “There is no evidence here of wrongdoing, as far as I can tell—and, yet, I think our politicians should not be getting anywhere close to that line, to the 'evidence' line. Yet, clearly, the ethical bar for our politicians is lower. Simply, it's the law that falls way short of what we should expect from elected officials. The STOCK Act was a step in the right direction, but a short step. Relying on our politicians having any sense of morality is, clearly, a fool's errand,” he said.
