AI Tupac and the murky legality of digital necromancy

NPR’s “The Indicator” podcast featured UB law professor Mark Bartholomew as a guest to discuss AI generated replicas of celebrities’ voices. Bartholomew says currently, there are few or no federal laws regulating this wild new world of AI replicas of people. Instead, he says, there's this confusing patchwork of laws that vary state by state. “Some of them cover some aspects of identity like your likeness, but not your voice. And they also have different attitudes towards whether rights on your identity extend after death,” he says.
