The Editorial Board: UB is wise to examine its handling of campus assemblies and encourage peaceful protest

With the war between Israel and Hamas continuing in Gaza, The Buffalo News writes that UB is “smart to update its guidelines” for campus gatherings and assemblies. “It’s possible that not everyone fully endorses UB President Satish Tripathi’s principle that ‘Peaceful assembly and protest underscore the university’s identity as a marketplace of ideas.’ But Tripathi is right. Participation in contemporary debate is an important element of education,” the editorial states.
