Joyce Cheng

The Outstanding Senior Award honors one graduating senior from each department who has demonstrated exceptional diligence and promise during their time at the University at Buffalo. These students' efforts have distinguished them among their peers and set an inspiring example of academic and personal achievement.

Juliana Hassouna

Joyce Cheng of Queens, N.Y., will graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Design and Technology. Throughout her time at UB, Cheng was an active member of the Student Association as part of the sound tech team. She worked on a multitude of departmental shows, including "The Pajama Game" and "Fabulation or the Re-Education of Undine," where she served as sound designer and sound mixer. Additionally, she worked with Zodiaque Dance Company as a sound designer, sound engineer, and stage manager. She was also a sound designer as part of the design team for Theatre and Dance’s Student Directed Series production of "Ernest and the Pale Moon." Joyce received a Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Merit Award for Excellence in Sound Design and the Mr. Tom (Ralabate) Design & Technology Award. After graduation, Cheng will pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree in sound design at Carnegie Mellon University. She hopes to one day become a sound princess.
