Laura Hubbard
Laura Hubbard, vice president for finance and administration, has been named acting chair of the board of directors of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO).
Hubbard, who has served as vice chair of the NACUBO board since August, will complete the term of Tashni-Ann Dubroy, NACUBO’s outgoing board chair who is retiring from her post as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Howard University. Hubbard also will continue to serve as the board’s vice chair and will begin her own term as chair this coming August.
NACUBO, founded in 1962, is a nonprofit professional organization representing chief administrative and financial officers at more than 1,700 colleges and universities across the country. It works to advance the economic vitality, business practices and support of higher education institutions in pursuit of their missions. The board of directors sets the strategic direction for the association and provides advice and oversight.
“Laura’s leadership and dedication are legendary within NACUBO, and it shows in her willingness to serve the organization and take on additional board responsibilities in this new role,” said NACUBO President and CEO Kara D. Freeman. “I appreciate her flexibility and know that we are in very good hands.”
Hubbard, who joined UB in 2012, leads strategic financial planning and analysis of resource use and development. As chief business officer, she leads the university’s resource planning, business services, internal audit, human resources, employee relations, university police, parking and transportation, sustainability and facilities departments.
Before joining the university, she was associate vice president for budget and finance at the University of Oregon. She has been active in NACUBO for many years as a frequent attendee and presenter, as a representative on NACUBO’s Research Universities Constituency Council, and as a board member.
“I’m honored and excited to take on these new responsibilities at NACUBO,” Hubbard said. “Tashni has provided us with a sound foundation, and Kara’s visionary leadership as president has set a great pace for the organization. I see unlimited possibilities for NACUBO and look forward to working with my board colleagues as we set priorities and serve and support our members.”
