As of March 2025, UB’s Computer and Network Usage policy and Data Risk Classification policy have been updated. Here’s what you need to know.

Computer and Network Usage Policy

UB has retired its longstanding Telephone Use policy, replacing it with the newly-expanded Computer, Network, and Telecommunications Usage policy. This updated policy reflects a broader scope, encompassing campus network usage, computer operations, and telecommunications services.

In addition, it has been revised to include gender-neutral language and modern terminology, such as replacing references to the "World Wide Web" with "internet."

Data Risk Classification Policy

The Data Risk Classification policy has been refined to enhance clarity and security measures. The policy now ensures clearer classification and protection of research-related information.

The policy’s format has been updated by removing charts and restructuring compliance sections to provide a clearer framework. Additionally, the compliance section now explicitly outlines potential sanctions or penalties for the misuse of university data.
