Media Advisory: NYS Assemblywoman/UB alum Latoya Joyner to make UB law clinic funding announcement 10 a.m. Wednesday

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Latoya Joyner, a University at Buffalo alumnus and member of the New York State Assembly, will return to her alma mater on Wednesday to make a funding announcement for the School of Law’s Community Engagement Legal Clinic.

Joyner, who represents portions of The Bronx and surrounding communities, earned a JD from UB in 2012. She was first sworn into office in 2015.

The clinic is focused on access-to-justice work, including providing representation to individuals regarding unemployment benefits, protecting the civil rights of veterans, examining possible civil responses to racially-motivated violence, and other matters.

When: 10 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Where: Paula Agrusa Plaza on UB’s North Campus. The plaza is adjacent to the Alfiero Center.

Background: The Community Engagement Legal Clinic allows supervised student attorneys to respond to current and vital legal and policy community needs.

UB created the clinic in response to the urgent legal demands arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, the clinic student attorneys have also provided access-to-justice service to clients on a number of issues throughout Western New York.
