Applications sought for service-learning fellows

Faculty and staff members interesting in learning how to develop a service-learning course are invited to participate in the free WNY Service Learning Coalition (WNYSLC) Service-Learning Faculty Fellowship Program.

Service-Learning Faculty Fellows acquire an in-depth understanding of service-learning pedagogy through an intensive three-day training program facilitated by nationally recognized experts. They also receive assistance in converting an existing course into a service-learning course or creating a new course that incorporates service learning.

Fellowships are open to all faculty and staff from any department. Applications may be submitted by individual faculty, by teams of faculty, or by departments interested in team-teaching or interdisciplinary collaborations. The proposed course must be taught in the 2013-14 academic year.

The training course will be held May 22-24 at Daemen College. Fellows must attend all three days of training, as well as one Faculty Fellows Group Reflection meeting, in either the fall 2013 or the spring 2014 semester.

The deadline for applications is April 5. Applications should be sent to Stephanie Malinenko, executive director, WNYSLC, at smalinen@daemen.edu.  For more information, contact Jessica Wangelin at jbiegaj@buffalo.edu.
