“Painting Borges: Art Interpreting Literature” will conclude its run in the UB Anderson Gallery on Feb. 22 with a special tour and launch of a new book by the exhibition’s curator.

Curator Jorge J.E. Gracia, SUNY Distinguished Professor and Samuel P. Capen Chair in the UB Department of Philosophy, will lead a tour of the exhibition and informal question-and-answer session at 1 p.m., followed at 2 p.m. by a discussion of his new book, “Thirteen Ways of Looking at Latino Art” (Duke University Press, 2014), with co-author Ilan Stavans, Lewis-Sebring Professor in Latin American and Latino Culture at Amherst College.

Interested in the intersection of art and ideas, the authors — Gracia is an analytic philosopher and Stavans an essayist and cultural commentator — examine in the book 13 works of Latino art that serve as the foci for their personal insights regarding visual culture, literature, history, ethics, politics and religion.

After the discussion, books will be available for purchase and signing by the authors.

A closing reception with light refreshments will take place to celebrate the successful run of “Painting Borges,” an exhibition of work created by 16 artists in response to stories by prominent Argentinean writer Jorge Luis Borges.

“Painting Borges: Philosophy Interpreting Life Interpreting Literature” (SUNY Press, 2012), a book written by Gracia, accompanied the exhibition, which opened on Sept. 21.

It will be on view through Feb. 23 in the Anderson Gallery, located at One Martha Jackson Place near Englewood and Kenmore avenues. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.
