Patricia Doeing, a longtime staff person in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, died Dec. 18.
Doeing worked at UB for 30 years before her retirement in 2000, serving as a secretary in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering and later as a staff member in the Office of External Affairs in the Dean’s Office.
In External Affairs, she supported the school’s publications, including The Buffalo Engineer, the school’s newsletter, and the commencement booklet. She also provided support to the school’s alumni association, the BEAM (Buffalo-area Engineering Awareness for Minorities) program and the internship program.
“She was a wonderful co-worker who was highly dedicated and caring,” says Robert Barnes, retired senior associate dean in the engineering school who was Doeing’s supervisor in External Affairs. “Engineering’s External Affairs unit was made much larger than its numbers through her enthusiasm and the personal service she gave tirelessly to all groups she interacted with.”
Doeing was a member of the UB Women’s Club and volunteered with Meals on Wheels and St. Bernard Parish.
