The Office of International Student and Scholar Services is offering two free workshops to assist UB employees who interact with international students.
“Appointing International Students: Immigration Documents, I-9 Documents, Etc.” will take place from noon to 1:15 p.m. March 10 in 206 Clemens Hall, North Campus.
The workshop is designed for staff members who must interpret immigration documents in order to process appointments.
Amanda Brown of UB’s International Employment Tax Unit, will lead the workshop.
“Beyond the Basics: Meeting International Students’ Needs” will be held from noon to 12:50 p.m. April 10 in 101 Baldy Hall, North Campus.
In this workshop, participants will discuss critical incidents in order to understand better some strategies used by UB international students and the reasons why they employ such strategies. Participants will gain insights into the causes of miscommunication and misunderstanding, while learning strategies for successful communication and cultural understanding.
Participants are urged to bring their own critical incidents for discussion, or they may submit them beforehand to the presenter, Ellen Dussourd, director of ISSS.
