More than 100,000 persons in the U.S. currently are waiting for a life-saving or life-improving organ, but an average of 18 people die daily waiting for an organ and about 132 people are added to the waiting list per day.
To increase awareness and educate campus peers and the Buffalo community on the importance of blood and organ donation, students in the Collegiate Science & Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) are holding an organ-donation registry drive on April 29.
The drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the lobby of the Student Union, North Campus. The event will feature free T-shirts, food and other giveaways.
The students are serving as community health educators in CSTEP’s annual service-learning project in partnership with Upstate New York Transplant Services (UNYTS).
