The Department of Music will conclude its 2014-15 concert season with two faculty recitals.
Glenn Einschlag, adjunct instructor who also is principal bassoonist of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform on April 30; adjunct instructor Sungmin Shin will offer a solo guitar program on May 1. Both concerts will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Baird Recital Hall, 250 Baird Hall, North Campus.
Tickets are $15 for general admission; $10 for UB faculty/staff/alumni, seniors and non-UB students; and free for UB students with valid ID. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Center for the Arts box office, online at tickets.com or one hour before the concert at the Slee Hall box office.
Einschlag will be accompanied by Daniel Pesca, piano, and Daniel Pendley, contrabass, on a program featuring the music of Alexandre Tansman, Noël Gallon, J.S. Bach and Albert Roussel.
Principal bassoon of the BPO since September 1999, Einschlag also has performed with such ensembles as the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Boston Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra. As a soloist, he has played numerous recitals, as well as various concerti with the Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra, the BPO and the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra.
Shin’s solo program will include his own compositions — “Two Jazz Pieces,” “Capricci Musicali” and “Three Pieces” — and work by Johann Kaspar Mertz, Manuel Ponce and Astor Piazzolla.
A current and founding member of the Eastman Guitar Quartet, Shin maintains a vigorous schedule of performing and teaching in a wide variety of musical settings. As a musician, he finds a unique balance between his classical training and deep roots in rock and popular guitar styles, a combination that drives his curiosity to seek new modes of expression through performance, improvisation and composition.
