Wilma Jean Newberry, a longtime Spanish professor at UB, died July 11 in Buffalo. She was 88.
A native of Covington, Kentucky, Newberry received a BA from Case Western Reserve University and a PhD from the University of Washington.
A UB faculty member from 1973-97, she authored the book “The Pirandellian Mode in Spanish Literature from Cervantes to Sastre” (SUNY Press, 1973), as well as numerous articles on modern Spanish theater and narrative in such noted academic journals as Hispania, PMLA and Symposium, among others.
