UB faculty, staff and students can show their support for healthy, seasonal eating by taking part in the fourth annual “Big Apple Crunch” on Oct. 23.
The event, sponsored by Campus Dining & Shops, will be held beginning at noon in the lobby of the Student Union, North Campus. It is part of Food Day 2015, a nationwide effort to inspire healthier eating and change food policy for the better.
Campus Dining & Shops will supply local Empire apples to the first 500 attendees. Participants also can bring their own apples.
At 12:30 p.m., participants will take a bite of their apples — en masse — to promote healthy eating while also celebrating New York’s apple industry.
New York is the second-largest apple-producing state in the U.S., averaging nearly 30 million bushels annually.
