UB’s Arthur O. Eve Educational Opportunity Center invites the community to join in its second annual “Strengthening Families Celebration” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 17 at EOC, 555 Ellicott St., on UB’s Downtown Campus.
Titled “Keeping Our Children Safe,” the family celebration is designed to educate and inform the community about healthy living and lifestyles, as well as workforce and postsecondary opportunities, and introduce potential adult students to the tuition-free services the EOC provides, such as high school equivalency and vocational training, according to Julius Gregg Adams, EOC executive director.
“This event was created to provide support for families — no matter how they are defined — through participation in a series of family-fun and family-friendly activities,” Adams says. “Adults will be able to watch the children they bring to the event learn that science can be fun as they enjoy interactive play-based learning.
“Parents will enjoy the many activities, games and exhibits with their children that we have planned for this celebration, all designed to further strengthen the bond that families enjoy with one another.”
The free educational and fun event will feature science activities, arts and crafts, technology exhibits, healthy-living exhibits, animals, games, prizes and other activities for children and adolescents.
The event also will include information and exhibits from groups partnering with EOC, among them the Buffalo Fire Department, UB Robotics Club, Girl Scouts of Western New York, Explore and More Children’s Museum, Dress for Success and the Buffalo Zoo.
Although not required, registration for this celebration is recommended and ongoing. Interested individuals can register online by visiting the EOC website and clicking on “Register for Event.” For more information, call the EOC at (716) 645-9555.
