The annual UB Run for Smiles returns for its fifth year, drawing more than 700 runners to the only race held on the South Campus and raising awareness about affordable health care services offered through the UB School of Dental Medicine.
The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. April 23 outside Harriman Hall.
Before the race, guests are welcome to attend a health fair and receive free screenings and consultations from faculty, staff and students from UB’s health sciences schools.
The post-race party, which is free and open to all, includes food, live music and field games.
The proceeds from the 5K race support the Counseling, Advocacy, Referral, Education and Service (CARES) program and Buffalo Outreach and Community Assistance (BOCA), both UB dental school programs dedicated to providing oral health care to underserved populations.
To date, the race, which is organized entirely by UB dental students, has raised nearly $50,000.
“This race was started by Dr. Anna Bailey five years ago to raise oral health awareness in the Buffalo community. It continues to grow each year and helps patients get the care that they deserve,” says Cole Staines, race co-director and a UB dental student.
The cost to register is $20, which increases to $25 after April 21.
