CBS will be in the house on Friday when the UB men’s basketball team takes on Akron in a rematch of last year’s MAC championship game.
And UB Athletics is looking for a packed house of the UB faithful for the first regular-season game in Alumni Arena to be broadcast by CBS or the CBS Sports Network.
The game — tipoff is at 8 p.m. — is this year’s Blackout Game in which fans are encouraged to wear black; the team will wear its black road uniforms.
The Bulls Team Shop in Alumni Arena is running a special discount on black UB apparel through Friday, with $5 off every $25 spent.
The game will be the second meeting of the year for the teams that faced off last March for the 2016 MAC Championship. UB won that game — its second-consecutive MAC championship — on a three-pointer by then-junior Blake Hamilton with two seconds left.
Akron took the teams’ first meeting since that game, 91-90, on Jan. 23 in Akron.
Tickets for Friday’s game are available, and start as low as $8 in the M&T Family Zone (Section 302). These tickets are limited, so faculty and staff interested in attending should call the UB ticket office at 1-877-UB-There or stop by the office in the main lobby of Alumni Arena during regular business hours.
Other single-game tickets at $15 and $25 also are available through Ticketmaster.
Friday’s game is the eighth this season to be nationally televised, with a ninth — an away games against Ohio — scheduled for Feb. 28. The Ohio game will mark the fourth UB away game to be broadcast by the CBS Sports Network this season, in addition to Friday’s home game.
