A daylong workshop designed to help members of the UB community learn methods for handling conflict and build a more inclusive community at the university will be held on March 11 on the North Campus.
The free nonviolence training, co-sponsored by Sub-Board I, the University Honors College, the Intercultural and Diversity Center, the Student Wellness Team and the School of Social Work’s Graduate Student Association, will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in 145 Student Union. Lunch will be provided.
Open to all faculty, staff and students, the training in the theory and practice of nonviolence is a unique opportunity for participants to work together to develop useful tools to address various issues on campus, organizers say.
The training will be led by two certified nonviolence trainers from Something New, a nonprofit organization that has been engaging in community building and social justice work for more than 10 years.
Originally based in Selma, Alabama, Something New builds on the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr. to train people how to effectively and peacefully handle internal and external conflict.
Those wishing to attend should RSVP by March 4.
