A workshop to help bridge the cultural gap between the American style of teaching and international students’ expectations and experiences will be held on Feb. 14.
The free workshop, “Teaching International Students: Promoting Class Participation & Understanding the Cultural Dimensions of Academic Integrity,” will take place from 3:30-4:50 p.m. in 214 Norton Hall, North Campus. It is presented by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services, the Center for Educational Innovation and the Graduate School.
The workshop, which will be led by Ellen Dussourd, assistant vice provost and ISSS director, will cover such topics as why international students may be reticent in class discussions and techniques to encourage their participation, and the cultural dimensions of academic integrity and students' understanding of plagiarism, citation methods and what constitutes cheating.
