Furnas Hall is open today for classes and regular activities after being closed for several hours Sunday night when a possible methane leak was reported in a fifth-floor lab.
After completing three sweeps of the building on Sunday night, UB Facilities and hazmat crews did not detect the presence of gases or odors, and determined the building was safe to reopen.
The building reopened shortly before 11 p.m.
Furnas, which houses the departments of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, was evacuated after students walking outside the fifth-floor lab noticed a “noxious odor” and called UB Police. UB Police evacuated the building a little before 8 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
