Books that once made the literary blacklist, including the ‘The Great Gatsby” and Dr. Seuss’ “Green Eggs and Ham,” will be on display in the lobby of Lockwood Memorial Library as the UB Libraries mark Banned Books Week Sept. 24-30.
Banned Books Week is a national celebration of free and open access to information —even information that some consider to be unorthodox or unpopular.
The banned books exhibit is returning to Lockwood for the third year. It will remain on view through Oct. 31. Visitors are welcome to check out any of the books for reading.
As part of Banned Books Week, the UB Libraries will host a “Banned Books Read-Out” in which guests read short selections from their favorite banned books. It will take place at 3 p.m. Sept. 27 in Silverman Library on the third floor of Capen Hall, North Campus.
Guests may register in advance or sign up at the event. Light refreshments will be served.
