The Department of Music offers members of the UB community opportunities to hear great music at no cost.
Here’s what’s in store for October.
A Brown Bag Concert will take place at noon on Oct. 3 in Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall, North Campus.
The Brown Bag Concert series of free, informal concerts presented during the lunch hour allows patrons to catch a glimpse of the kind of programming offered on a regular basis by the Department of Music.
The October concert will feature performances by UB music students and faculty. Patrons are encouraged to bring their lunch. Each attendee will receive a voucher redeemable for a pair of complimentary tickets to a more formal concert within the following month.
Also on the schedule for free concerts this month is the Wolf-Steger Fund Concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 in Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall. The program features music by Belgian composer Henri Pousseur, who was Slee Visiting Professor of Music at UB from 1966-67, and recent graduates of UB’s PhD program in composition program. Faculty performers include Jonathan Golove, cello; Eric Huebner, piano; and Tiffany Du Mouchelle, soprano.
Among other free concerts on tap are performances by students in Jean Kopperud’s “On the Edge” class, including the freshman seminar mid-semester concert No. 1 at 5 p.m. Oct. 10 and mid-semester concert No. 2 at 5 p.m. Oct. 17, and the class concert at 3 p.m. Oct. 17, all in Baird Recital Hall.
In addition, master’s student and mezzo-soprano Minxin She will give her MM recital at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 in Baird Recital Hall.
