Who needs gold when you have DNA?
Western New Yorkers are invited to SciNight: Diving into Your DNA, an event hosted by the Buffalo Museum of Science and UB’s Community of Excellence in Genome, Environment and Microbiome, where guests can create a necklace made from their own DNA and learn about DNA testing and the makeup of our genetic material from local scientists.
The evening includes a discussion led by UB evolutionary anthropologist Omer Gokcumen. An assistant professor of biological sciences, Gokcumen studies how humans evolved and adapted — including how they differ from primates such as gorillas and chimpanzees — and the role of genetics in disease.
The event will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Buffalo Museum of Science, 1020 Humboldt Pkwy., Buffalo.
The workshop is open to guests aged 18 years and older. Tickets are $15, with Buffalo Museum of Science members receiving discounted admission. Registration is required.
SciNight is a series of workshops presented by the Buffalo Museum of Science that aim to educate the local community about complex scientific subjects in engaging ways.
