The search for UB’s next chief of police has begun and the search committee is seeking input from members of the university community on their interests and priorities for the search.

Community forums will be held from 6-7 p.m. Sept. 24 in the ballroom in Harriman Hall, South Campus, and from 4-5 p.m. Sept. 25 in the Buffalo Room, 10 Capen Hall, North Campus.

Faculty, staff, students and external community members are invited to attend one of these open sessions.

The search committee is seeking a successor to Gerald W. Schoenle Jr., who retired from UB in January after 12 years with the university. Chris Bartolomei, assistant chief of university police since 2013, is serving as acting chief of police.

The committee, appointed by Laura Hubbard, vice president for finance and administration, is being chaired by Mark Coldren, assistant vice president for human resources.

Also serving on the committee are Liz Lidano, director, Student Conduct and Advocacy; Tess Morrissey, director, Community Relations; Sharon Nolan-Weiss, director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion; Joe Raab, director, Environment, Health and Safety; and Despina Stratigakos, vice provost, Office of Inclusive Excellence.

Gary Peterson from the executive search firm of Public Sector Search and Consulting has been hired to assist in the search. Peterson has recruited a broad range of senior executives for municipalities, special districts and universities.
