The ninth annual UB Giving Day, held April 20-21, raised a record $1,774,205 from 2,778 donors who showed their UB pride by making gifts to departments and units and participating in challenges, including gift matches.
“Huge shoutout to the Annual Giving team for their work to deliver a record-setting Giving Day,” said Jason Diffenderfer, interim vice president for advancement, just hours after the event’s conclusion on April 21.
Donors supported numerous funds, including those for the LGBTQ Faculty and Staff Association, the UB Libraries’ James Joyce Museum, Student Life, Athletics, the academic units and many more. Dozens of schools and departments successfully completed challenges that unlocked thousands of dollars in bonus funds.
Jeff Piscitelli, executive director of advancement in the School of Management, secured a $1 million gift from a long-time supporter that was also counted in the total. It was the first million-dollar Giving Day gift since 2019.
Dawn Baumgarten, executive director of annual giving, congratulated the entire Advancement team on this year’s success and spoke about the impact these funds will have on the university.
“We’re so appreciative of match and challenge donors, who gave generously and allowed us to leverage their gifts to encourage others to also give back,” said Baumgarten. “We know all gifts significantly influence the student experience at UB and in turn those students go on to influence others. It’s remarkable what is possible when we come together as one UB community.”
Individuals who missed Giving Day can still make a donation online.
