The School of Dental Medicine has been ranked among the top in the United States and the world, according to the 2023 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy.
The rankings, regarded as one of the most prestigious and influential global rankings in higher education, place dental programs offered by UB at No. 7 in the nation and No. 11 worldwide.
The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects is largely based on university research outcomes, and institutions are scored on the number of articles published in influential academic journals, the impact and citation of research, the amount of prestigious scientific awards presented to faculty and the volume of international collaboration on research.
Marcelo Araujo, dean of the dental school, says the rankings are a testament to the faculty’s commitment to their students and to pursuing cutting-edge research.
“Our latest standing in the 2023 Global Ranking by the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy speaks volumes,” Araujo says. “Our faculty work tirelessly day after day to take their areas of expertise to the next level. They generated $8.8 million in research expenditures in the past year alone.”
He added that the rankings support the goals of President Satish K. Tripathi and Provost A. Scott Weber for UB to become one of the top 25 public research universities in the country.
Thousands of universities are ranked in the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in categories that span the natural, life, medical and social sciences and engineering.
