UB alumna Elisa Bandera, an epidemiologist focused on the nutritional epidemiology of female hormonal cancer prevention and survival, will present the 17th Annual Saxon Graham Lecture on April 5.
Bandera’s lecture, “The evolution of nutrition and cancer prevention guidelines through a personal lens,” will begin at noon in 403 Hayes Hall, South Campus. A Q&A will follow the talk.
Bandera received her PhD in epidemiology and community health from UB and her medical degree from the University of Malaga, Spain. She is professor and chief, Cancer Epidemiology and Health Outcomes; Unilever Endowed Chair in Nutrition and Cancer Prevention; co-leader, Cancer Prevention and Control Program; and director, Cancer Prevention and Outcomes Data Support Shared Resource, at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Bandera’s research interests include breast cancer in African American women and the role nutritional factors play in explaining disparities in risk and survival; early determinants of cancer risk, in particular factors affecting pubertal development and breast cancer; and the development of evidence-based dietary guidelines for cancer prevention and survival.
Attendance is in person or virtual; registration is required. A box lunch will be available for all in-person registrants. In-person attendee registration closes March 27, while online registration closes April 3.
Presented by the School of Public Health and Health Professions, the annual Saxon Graham Lectureship honors the life and legacy of the longtime UB faculty member considered one of the fathers of U.S. chronic disease epidemiology.
