The second annual Gift to the Community Concert celebrating the strength and musical diversity of the Buffalo community will take place at 3 p.m. May 12 in Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall, North Campus.
Presented by the Department of Music, UB faculty and students, as well as local musicians, will join together for a Mother’s Day program of jazz, classical and Afro-Latin music.
Admission is free; no ticket is required.
Featured artists include vocalists Curtis Lovell, Alex McArthur and recent Grammy winner and incoming UB faculty member Jeff Scott, along with UB faculty members Sabu Adeyola, George Caldwell, Eric Huebner, Michael Serio, Jaman Dunn-Danger and Colter Harper, and student ensembles the UB Friday Band, directed by Jon Nelson, and the UB Choro Ensemble, directed by Stephen Guerra.
The Department of Music has a long history of community outreach through music, notes department chair Eric Huebner, adding that in the wake of the Tops massacre on May 14, 2022, the department has rededicated itself to fostering connections that reach beyond the North Campus. The department regularly features members of the broader musical community on the Slee and Baird Hall stages, and engages new audiences with diverse musical programming.
