CAS dean search underway

The search for the next dean of the College of Arts and Sciences is underway, Provost A. Scott Weber has announced, with School of Law Dean S. Todd Brown being named chair of the search committee.

The committee is seeking a successor to Robin Schulze, who is stepping down as dean after an eight-year tenure. Schulze will remain as dean until her successor is hired, after which she will return to her faculty role.

Composed of faculty members representing college departments across the arts and humanities, natural sciences and mathematics, and social sciences, as well as university and faculty leadership, the search committee includes:

  • Robert M. Adelman,professor, Department of Sociology and Criminology, College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Ann Bisantz, dean of undergraduate education and SUNY Distinguished Professor, Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
  • David R. Castillo, professor, Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, and co-director, Center for Information Integrity, CAS.
  • Jaron Cheung, PhD student, Department of Philosophy, CAS.
  • Luis A. Colón, SUNY Distinguished Professor and A. Conger Goodyear Professor, Department of Chemistry, CAS.
  • Derek Daniels, professor and chair, Department of Biological Sciences, CAS.
  • Melanie C. Green, professor and chair, Department of Communication, CAS.
  • Eric Huebner, professor and chair, Department of Music, CAS.
  • Jacob D. Kathman, professor and chair, Department of Political Science, CAS.
  • Suzanne G. Laychock, chair, Faculty Senate; professor, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology; and senior associate dean for faculty affairs, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
  • Elizabeth Otto, professor, Department of Global Gender and Sexuality Studies, and director, Humanities Institute, CAS.
  • Barbara Prinari, professor, Department of Mathematics, CAS.
  • Suzanne Rosenblith, dean and professor, Graduate School of Education.
  • Chi Ho Sham, chair, Dean’s Advisory Council, CAS.
  • Rinaldo W. Walcott, Professor and Carl V. Granger Chair, Department of Africana and American Studies, CAS.
  • Victoria W. Wolcott, professor, Department of History, CAS, and director, Gender Institute.
  • Agnieszka “Agnes” Zak-Moskal, assistant dean for student success and advising, CAS.

Russell Reynolds Associates is assisting the university in recruiting candidates.

The committee will begin its work this month and anticipates having a new dean identified in the spring semester, Weber said.
