UB extends comment period on time, place and manner policies

Published October 1, 2024

The UB community will have an additional two weeks to review and comment on the university’s revised time, place and manner policies.

UB and its Policy Review Group have extended the comment period until Oct. 14 to allow more time for feedback on the assembling, camping and posting policies that the university clarified over the summer. The original 30-day comment and review period ended Sept. 28.

The university has received a number of thoughtful and constructive comments from the campus community — including feedback from the Faculty Senate — and based on that input, the university has made revisions to the draft policies. Those revisions include:

  • Posting Policy: The revised draft policy will not prohibit chalking on campus walkways and allow postings on general-use campus bulletin boards without a contact name on the flyer.
  • Assembling Policy: The revised draft now indicates that amplification equipment will be prohibited only when it is disruptive to university operations.

The updated policies can be found here.

The Policy Review Group will meet again Oct. 14 to review additional comments that come in during the extended comment period before offering feedback to UB leadership about the new and revised policies.

In the interim, the updated and clarified policies — alongside the Rules for the Maintenance of Public Order of the SUNY Board of Trustees — will serve as time, place and manner guidance for the university.
