Updated university policies for assembling, posting and camping on campus are now in place following final approval from President Satish K. Tripathi.
UB and its Policy Review Group clarified the university’s “time, place and manner” policies over the summer and made revisions based on weeks of feedback from the campus community.
An extended comment period ended Oct. 14 and these updated policies on assembling, posting and camping took effect on Nov. 7.
“As a scholarly community that embraces the tenets of the First Amendment, we are dedicated to upholding the rights of free speech and the right to peaceably assemble,” Tripathi said in an email to the campus.
“These clarified policies reaffirm UB’s commitment to ensure a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment where we are free to carry out our education and research mission without disruption or interference,” the president said.

Tripathi thanked members of the university community for their collaboration during this process, specifically acknowledging the “thoughtful engagement” provided by the students, faculty and staff on the Policy Review Group, the Faculty Senate, the Professional Staff Senate, the undergraduate Student Association and the Graduate Student Association.
“I commend the UB Policy Review Group and our entire UB community for your insights, exemplary work and contributions to our climate of mutual respect,” the president said.
“I appreciate the productive, respectful dialogues that took place throughout the extended university-wide review process.”
