Bohemian Trio to perform March 7

Published February 26, 2025

The Bohemian Trio will bring the diverse sounds and rhythms of Cuba and the Americas to life at a concert at UB on March 7.

The performance, part of the Department of Music’s Slee Visiting Artist Series, will take place in Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall, North Campus.

The evening will begin with a pre-concert talk at 7:30 p.m.; the musical program will be announced from the stage. The trio will also present master classes with UB students from 10 a.m. to noon on March 8 in Slee and Baird halls.

Tickets for the March 7 concert are $20. Advance tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com, at the Center for the Arts box office from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and at the Slee Hall box office an hour before the concert. UB students are entitled to one complimentary ticket — to this and all UB music department concerts — and may pick up their ticket right before the concert.

With roots in Cuba, France, Trinidad and the U.S., the Bohemian Trio — pianist Orlando Alonso, cellist Yves Dhar and saxophonist Yosvany Terry — shifts intuitively among classical, jazz and world music. At the heart of their collaborations are Terry’s original works, which are driven by Afro-Cuban rhythms, sweeping classical melodies and a touch of improvisation. The trio’s repertoire is rounded out with commissioned works by such composers as Manuel Valera, Sonia Jacobsen, Pedro Giraudo and Emilio Solla, and favorites from the classical repertoire, among them “Passacaille” from Ravel’s Piano Trio.
