Amanda Nickerson, SUNY Distinguished Professor and director of the Alberti Center for Bullying Abuse Prevention, has been named a 2025 fellow of the American Educational Research Association (AERA).

Nickerson joins 28 other esteemed scholars selected as AERA fellows this year. The AERA Fellows Program recognizes exceptional academic achievement and significant contributions to the advancement of educational research. Fellows are nominated by their peers, reviewed by the AERA Fellows Committee and approved by the AERA Council, the association’s elected governing body.

A nationally recognized expert on school safety, violence prevention and the role of schools in supporting student mental health, Nickerson’s research has informed policies and practices aimed at creating safer and more supportive learning environments. Her work emphasizes the importance of collaboration between educators, families and communities to foster student well-being and academic success.

“The selection of Dr. Nickerson as an AERA fellow is a testament to her impactful research and dedication to advancing knowledge in education,” says Suzanne Rosenblith, professor and dean of the Graduate School of Education. “Her work continues to shape the national conversation on bullying prevention and school safety.”

Nickerson and the 2025 AERA fellows will be formally inducted during a ceremony on April 24 at the AERA Annual Meeting in Denver.
