The UB Choir joins the Harmonia Chamber Singers and a professional wind ensemble from the Buffalo Musicians' Association on March 8 for a performance of Anton Bruckner's Mass in E Minor.
The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 435 Amherst St., Buffalo. Tickets are $25 for general admission and $10 for students with ID; a reception will follow the performance.
The concert marks the Western New York premiere of Bruckner's 1882 edition of the work for mixed choir and wind ensemble, and celebrates Bruckner's 200th birthday. The Harmonia Chamber Singers will also perform Poulenc’s “Un soir de neige,” Bruckner's “Christus factus est” and works by Barton, Hagenberg, Quartel and Parker.
Forty-seven singers from the UB Choir will join the Harmonia Chamber Singers and the wind ensemble for the Mass in E Minor for the second half of the program. Harmonia Chamber Singers Director Robert Pacillo will conduct; UB faculty member Claudia Brown, associate teaching professor in the Department of Music and director of the UB Choir, prepared the choir for its first collaboration with the Harmonia Chamber Singers.
