After celebrating virtually last year due to COVID-19, UB faculty and staff will again gather in person later this month to recognize the outstanding achievements of their colleagues during the past year.

The 18th annual Celebration of Faculty & Staff Academic Excellence will take place at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 28 in Lippes Concert Hall in Slee Hall, North Campus.

The celebration will showcase the work and achievements of faculty and staff in research, teaching and service in 2021.

A separate ceremony recognizing student achievement will be held during the spring semester.

The faculty/staff event will include a welcome by President Satish K. Tripathi, remarks by Provost A. Scott Weber and on-stage recognition of faculty and staff in several categories:

  • Awards that are recognized as “prestigious” or “highly prestigious” by the National Research Council.
  • SUNY Distinguished Professor.
  • SUNY Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence.
  • UB Distinguished Professor.
  • 50 and 60 years of service at UB.

Other research, teaching and mentoring awards received by faculty and staff during 2021 are listed on the Celebration of Academic Excellence website.

Those attending the event are asked to register online by Oct. 20.

Attendees will be required to show proof of at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. A vaccination card, photo of a vaccination card, Excelsior Pass or digital vaccine card are all acceptable. Attendees should be prepared to show photo ID as well. Face coverings continue to be required for all inside campus buildings. Children under 12 who are not vaccinated may still be admitted but must be masked at all times.
