Jo Freudenheim, SUNY Distinguished Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health, School of Public Health and Health Professions, has been named a fellow of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN).

Fellowship status, the highest honor bestowed by ASN, recognizes individuals for “significant discoveries and distinguished careers in the field of nutrition.”

Freudenheim is among 16 individuals inducted into the 2023 class of fellows. They will be honored next month at the ASN’s annual flagship meeting, NUTRITION 2023.

Members of this year’s class join more than 500 other ASN fellows who have been recognized since the program began in 1952.

An internationally renowned expert in cancer epidemiology, Freudenheim has conducted seminal research to understand factors that influence risk for cancer — particularly breast cancer — including the role of diet, alcohol and the physical environment. Her research has been funded for more than 25 years by the National Institutes of Health and other federal funding agencies. She has authored more than 275 peer-reviewed publications in national and international high-impact journals, where they have helped shape the field of chronic disease epidemiology.
